SERIES TOPIC: The Use of TheTongue
MAIN SCRIPTURE: James 3 :1- 12.
Warm greetings beloved friends and lovers of God. We are beginning a series on the use of the tongue.
At the end of the series, by the grace of God, we would have learnt and be committed on how to use our tongue to the glory of God. Great blessings as you follow the series.
The tongue, according to the Oxford Dictionary is defined as:
1. The fleshy muscular organ in the mouth of a mammal, used for tasting, licking, swallowing, and (in humans) articulating speech.
2. Is used to refer to a person's style or manner of speaking.
For our purpose, we will refer to the tongue as an organ of speech.
A sanctified tongue will speak blessings. An uncontrollable tongue will speak curses, abuses and defiling words.
It is not possible to switch from cursing to blessing because both curses and blessings cannot flow from the same source.
From the Scriptures in James 3,
The tongue is to bridle or control the whole body.
The bit in horse's mouth is to control the horse .
A small rudder in a large ship is to control the ship and direct it as the pilot wants. 🛳⛴
A small fire in a forest is capable of causing huge devastation as wild fires are started with just a spark.
The tongue is a fire, an uncontrollable tongue is a world of iniquity. An unsanctified tongue defiles all other members of the body.
The tongue sets on fire the course of nature. Finally it is set on fire by hell! Imagine that small organ what damage it is capable of, such that the whole body will be put in hellfire.
You cannot control your tongue by your power only Jesus can do it in your life if you are willing and obedient.
The tongue was given to us to be controlled. It has life and death in it. However it can only function in One Direction.
The direction it functions is determined by its owner. Whether it is for blessings and life or for curses and death.
You can choose from these two options by either yielding your life in obedience to God or living in defiance to His Word.
I urge you to choose blessing and life by yielding your life in obedience to God.
